Students are assessed and placed into a group with a learning plan according to their needs. Though students integrate into classes, they come out for their ESOL classes. In their ESOL classes, focus is on speaking, listening, writing and grammar. Students also have use of an online programme targeting each student’s level.
All students are assessed according to the ELLP (English Language Learning Progressions.) Much of the teaching is based on the ELIP (English Language Intensive Programme).
The ESOL programme is designed to be fun and engaging, so that students grow in their written and oral English skills enabling them to learn with greater confidence in their mainstream classes. Depending on the classes and student needs, the learners will attend 1 – 3 periods a week
The ESOL programme is multi-leveled so that each child’s individual learning needs can be met. The teaching programme will enable the students to be better equipped for learning in other subject areas. Students receive English support for learning in their major subjects too. There are 5 periods of Senior ESOL a week.
Learning Pathway: ESOL – ENC (Core English) Level 1 or 2– NCEA ENGLISH L1 –NCEA ENGLISH L2
