Welcome
Welcome to Hockey at KingsWay School.
We are looking forward to a great year of hockey. Hockey at KingsWay School is going from strength to strength and a number of our teams excelled in their particular grades last season. We are aiming for more success in 2012. We would like to thank all parents, coaches and managers in advance. Without your commitment, unity and strength, we would not be able to field the number of teams that we do. All hockey games are at Rosedale Park in Albany (Constellation Drive turnoff) and training will be on the school astro turf.

Coaches and Managers:
We believe that it is imperative that every child gets the best possible experience from their sporting opportunities. To this end, we do require dedicated managers and sport coaches to assist with the running of teams. If you are able to volunteer your time, please inform the Teacher in Charge of the code in which you wish to be involved. Every code will have access to specialised coaching this year on an infrequent basis to assist coaches, however, coaching courses can be organised to up-skill volunteers.
Uniforms:
Uniforms will be provided for the season, students must provide their own sticks, shin pads, socks and mouthguards. Please note the new coloured sport socks are necessary for the all teams and they can be purchased from the Sport Office for $15 and mouthguards can also be purchased for $5 also in the Sport Office.
Winter Week Tournament:
2011 saw the second year KingsWay School was able to send our 1st XI teams to the National Secondary School Winter Week Tournaments. If your son or daughter makes the 1st XI team it is expected that they commit to this week.
Depending on where the tournaments are to be held will depend on the final cost, which we endeavour to keep below $500. This fee covers all incidentals from food, travel and accommodation, alternate uniform strip and other events held during the week. Fundraising is carried out by each team to try minimise costs as we understand this may not be the only trip your son or daughter may be involved with during the year.
Turfs/Venues:
Please note that the turfs for North Harbour Hockey Association are as follows:
Harbour 1, Harbour 2 and Miller 3 are located at the main stadium arena with the hockey clubrooms.
Harbour 4 is the old Sand Turf at the back of Rosedale by the soccer and softball pitches.

Umpiring
The better you know the rules of a game the better you can play the game. Here are two documents that could help improve your hockey experience. If you are umpiring at any stage please review the Umpire Briefing document, a document that was given out to umpires at the U18 tournament in 2009 from Craig Gribble, NZ Hockey Umpire Development Manager. Also, the rule book is a good tool to refer to if you keep wondering why the ref always blows the whistle when you touch that ball! :-) If you have any hockey rule questions please feel free to contact Miss Norman.
North Harbour Secondary Division By-Laws
North Harbour Hockey Association has sent a reminder of some crucial by-laws that govern our games. Please review the following – I have heard that they will give players one warning and then the next week you will not play if you do not have a mouth guard – you will be side-lined each week if you do not have your mouth guard in.
As per the Secondary Division By-Laws, NHHA would like to remind you of the following:
7.4 Each team shall complete the same team card and hand it to the umpire prior to commencement of the match. Players shall be identified on the card by a minimum of first initial and surname and players’ numbers must be listed. No player or substitute may take the field until said player’s name appears on the team card. Failure to complete the scorecard will result in both teams being awarded No Points
7.5 Following completion of a game, the winning team, or in the case of a draw the team named first, is responsible for ensuring the completed team card is received by NHHA. Failure to forward the team card will result in loss of points for that game.
11.3 Blood Code
Any player who is bleeding must leave the field immediately and may return only when they and their uniform is free of exposed blood. Blood neutralising liquid is available and is to be used immediately to neutralise any blood on the turf before re-commencement of the game.
11.4 Safety
In accordance with HNZ policy, it is mandatory for all players taking part in youth competitions to wear mouth guards. Managers/coaches of all teams are to ensure mouth guards are worn during all secondary school matches. NHHA strongly recommends the wearing of shin guards also during matches.
NHHA Secondary Division members will be policing these during competition nights.
Notified: 5 May 2011.
No literature found.
